orthros (matins)
Orthros is the time just before sunrise. It is part of the measurement of the day from the Roman period and is still preserved in Christianity.
In Church, Orthros is the morning sequence that precedes the Divine Liturgy. It is a request to the Divine with the dawn of the new day as well as a spiritual preparation.
At this early time a woman stands across the land boundary of Mount Athos*, holding her own Liturgy with the morning awakening of nature as a participant
* In Mount Athos (Holy Mountain) there is a prohibition on entry for women, called avaton (Άβατον)
